Flag football is a non-contact game that promotes skill development, cardio training and mental strategy.  People can play recreationally, as part of a school intramural program or/and on a more competitive level within organized leagues.

Flag football is a sport easily adapted for any age, any ability and any gender.  It is one of the fastest growing sports being played in Canada.  Flag Football can be played in any open field or gym.  Turf and Grass fields can be easily defined by cones and Indoor Gym flag football can be defined by the basketball courts in most gymnasiums.

 

Flag Football is:

  • Fun

  • Inexpensive

  • Promotes ‘Sport for Life’

  • Develops life skills through cooperation, self discipline, self confidence, sportsmanship and helps to improve self image.

 

Flag Football is a great transfer sport and most skills learned through flag football will benefit youth in other sports such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, badminton as well as many others. 

The ‘Introduction to Flag Football’ Program aligns with multiple early stages in the SPORT FOR LIFE – Long Term Development Model. 

  1. Awareness and First Involvement

  • For some youth and coaches this will be the first time introduced to the sport/game of Flag Football

 

   2. FUNdamentals

  • These experiences will result in the participants developing a wide range of movement skill along with the confidence and desire to participate.

  • Emphasize the overall development of the child’s physical capacities, fundamental movement skills, and the ABCs of athleticism: agility, balance, coordination and speed.

  • Develop skills by exposing participants to a variety of environments - indoors and outdoors, on land, ice and snow, in the air, and in or on water.

  • A mixture of structured and unstructured play, with some instruction.

 

   3. Learn to Train

  • Understanding basic rules, tactics, and strategy in games and refinement of sport specific skills.

  • Ensure sport and physical activity remains FUN.
